What type of tyres to choose?

The tyre you need depends greatly on the kind of car you drive and the type of driving you do. If you drive short distances in and around town on the school run or to the local shops then economy and safety will be a primary concern when choosing a tyre. If you do a lot of motorway driving then low noise, comfort and fuel saving might be factors in helping you find the right tyre. Drivers with luxury cars and sports cars will be interested in high performance tyres, which offer precision handling, excellent traction and manoeuvrability at speed.

At Tyre Centre we can advise you on the right car tyre for your driving requirements, and at a low tyre price that won’t break your budget.

    Our Price Promise to you

Our tyre prices are the best in the business – and the Tyre Centre Price Promise means we won’t be beaten on price, guaranteed. If you can find the same tyre in stock locally at a lower price, then we promise to beat that competitor’s quotation. Claims are valid against written quotations from any similar retailer excluding trade, internet or wholesale operations or products already on promotion and must relate to the same product, part and manufacturer (including guarantees).

    Tyre Safety

Tyres are one of the most important components of a vehicle. The tyre tread area making contact with the road is relatively small– only about the size of the palm of your hand – so if your tyres are worn or damaged it can seriously affect your car’s safety and handling. Not only that, if your tyres don’t meet legal requirements, you could face a fine of 2,500 euro per tyre and 3 penalty points on your licence.

That’s why it’s important to check tyre tread depth, general tyre condition and tyre pressure to ensure your tyres are safe for the roads.

Tread depth must be above the legal minimum of 1.6mm throughout a continuous strip in the centre three quarters of the tread and around the entire tyre circumference. At Tyre Centre, we support the 3mm campaign which recommends motorists replace their tyres when the tread reaches 3mm for utmost safety when driving especially in the wet at high speeds.

Tyres must be correctly inflated according to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations in the vehicle handbook. Over-inflated tyres cause excess wear, shortening tyre life and can result in an uncomfortable ride; under-inflated tyres result in increased fuel consumption and faster wear of the tread shoulders plus increased chance of impact damage.

You should also inspect the general condition of your tyre for any sign of bumps, bulges or cuts which could cause a blow out when driving.

Tyre Centre recommends that motorists check tyre tread depth, condition and pressure on a monthly basis and before any long journeys – and if in doubt, come into your local Tyre Centre branch for a free tyre safety inspection. For more information, visit our tyre information pages.

    Chevrolet New Tyres

Chevrolet (/ʃɛvrəˈleɪ/ shev-rə-LAY), colloquially referred to as Chevy and formally the Chevrolet Division of General Motors Company, is an American automobile division of the American manufacturer General Motors (GM). Louis Chevrolet and ousted General Motors founder William C. Durant started the company on November 3, 1911 [2] as the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. Durant used the Chevrolet Motor Car Company to acquire a controlling stake in General Motors with a reverse merger occurring on May 2, 1918 and propelled himself back to the GM presidency. After Durant’s second ousting in 1919, Alfred Sloan, with his maxim “a car for every purse and purpose,” would pick the Chevrolet brand to become the volume leader in the General Motors family, selling mainstream vehicles to compete with Henry Ford’s Model T in 1919 and overtaking Ford as the best-selling car in the United States by 1929.[3]

Chevrolet-branded vehicles are sold in most automotive markets worldwide, with the notable exception of Oceania, where GM is represented by its Australian subsidiary, Holden; Chevrolet announced a return to the region beginning in 2018 after a 50-year absence. In 2005, Chevrolet was relaunched in Europe, primarily selling vehicles built by GM Daewoo of South Korea with the tagline “Daewoo has grown up enough to become Chevrolet”, a move rooted in General Motors’ attempt to build a global brand around Chevrolet. With the reintroduction of Chevrolet to Europe, GM intended Chevrolet to be a mainstream value brand, while GM’s traditional European standard-bearers, Opel of Germany, and Vauxhall of United Kingdom would be moved upmarket.[4] However, GM reversed this move in late 2013, announcing that the brand would be withdrawn from Europe, with the exception of the Camaro and Corvette[5] in 2016. Chevrolet vehicles will continue to be marketed in the CIS states, including Russia. After General Motors fully acquired GM Daewoo in 2011 to create GM Korea, the last usage of the Daewoo automotive brand was discontinued in its native South Korea and succeeded by Chevrolet.
